TxSP has started a new filing cabinet in the Nursing Section. It has four new file drawers containing specific emergency protocols and posters to ensure everyone has access to life-saving procedures.

The new protocol on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation explains the two types of heart conditions (Sudden Cardiac Arrest and Heart Attacks) as well as CPR that non-certified staff members can perform until a certified CPR individual can come to take over. Training requirements for staff and students are listed. TxSP has included two posters with simple graphics to show CPR procedures and one for infants and children.

Emergency Treatment Authorization

Texas public schools are generally responsible for providing emergency treatment, mainly if backed by local district policy. Although an emergency treatment authorization is not mandated, best practices recommend it. The protocol offers recommended procedures, the benefits of requiring emergency release forms, and specific legal responsibilities. TxSP has also provided an Emergency Treatment Authorization if the districts do not already have one. If your district does not already have this as part of your annual enrollment procedures, they might want to review and consider this for the 2025-26 school year.

TxSP added a new comprehensive AED protocol and documents listed in the graphic above to the Emergency Filing drawer with district requirements and staff responsibilities.

The traumatic injury protocol has been updated and a new poster has been added to display around the campus. The protocol includes steps, training requirements, bleeding control stations, and when minors can consent to treatment.
